Aaaand we're back! We made it all the way to rome in under two weeks so we had a bunch of time there as well. I'll write down a detailed post about the entire journey at some point so I won't go into detail but it was a lot of fun!
In other news, I'm writing this from my new notebook which arrived while we were still in Italy. It's a Lenovo P14s Gen 7 with the new Intel X9 388H and 64Gi of memory. My old T14s was still going great but if my work offers to pay for a new device every three years, I'm sure going to take advantage of it.
I took this switch as an opportunity to switch to NixOS and so far, things are going great! I had some initial troubles getting graphics to work but now everything seems to be working just fine.
While relaxing in Rome, I read up on Andy Bells Personal webside redesign and astro and while I don't love the idea of using JS for everything, it seems to offer exactly what I was missing from hugo: Fully modular and extensibility when it comes to rendering things. I also want to set up standard.site support eventually and build a full POSSE flow but this will have to wait a bit longer.
My next larger project is setting up solar panels on our balcony which first takes some bureaucracy to get approval from everyone else in the building. Luckily, solar panels are a privileged modification now but it still takes two months notice before we can set things up so I'm finalizing the plans & sketches right now in order to send a formal letter to all other owners. This means I get to try out new things like camelot to parse the list of addresses I've been given & typst to generate the letters for all recipients.
All in all, I'm psyched to be back and am looking forward to fun things to work on!
