Weekly Wrap 26/1

Things that occured this week that I'd thought to write about

As mentioned in my December Adventure, I'd like to try writing weekly posts on what I did this week. The reasoning behind this is twofold: I'd like to write more and reflecting on things I did gives me the feeling of progress which I'd otherwise loose. My main inspiration is the worm-blossom log but I don't think I have the time to match it in fidelity or content 😅.

I'm not sure if I'll stick with it or if I'm even set on the type of things to write down here but I guess I'll see as time goes on.

A new year is a great time to reprioritize things and consider what I'd like to get done by the end of it. One thing I really want to accomplish, is running the first production instance of sharepa for our small community of friends. Technically it already works but there isn't much of an appeal to use it as populating content is not as seamless as I'd like it to be and it's only suited for things you borrow over a fixed time frame. I need something specific to drive value and one thing that came to mind is books! Everyone has at least one book around and if I add a simple way to share them, this is a very specific value add I feel my friends are going to utilize.

For this, I added a simple lookup API to get details from an ISBN and worked up a rough draft of a barcode scanning & book enrichment API. The scanning and lookup works but I still have to wire it to the proposal creation logic and build a no-JS alternative.

This week we also played Act II of our Arcs campaign. I narrowly finished my fate as the pirate but my position isn't nearly as good as I'd like it to be 😬. So far, I really like the game, even though it tends to take a lot of time between turns, especially in the later chapters.

I finished the first book of the Expanse series as an audiobook and will definetly continue with it. For now though, I want to focus on Blood in the Machine and maybe switch it up by reading fiction and listening to non-fiction.
